To access full roaming services, make sure you have a VoLTE roaming capable phone, and that you have the latest OS update.

Destination countries will not have 4G or 5G coverage available everywhere, and require a 4G or 5G capable device.
Available on all Pay Monthly mobile plans currently on sale (excluding Mobile Broadband) and for Red Sure Spend customers who request Daily Roaming when you roam in selected Daily Roaming destinations and plans listed here.
For a daily fee, per device, use your mobile plan inclusions and rates in Daily Roaming destinations. Usual plan charges apply. A daily fee applies for each day you make/receive calls, send TXTs or use data in the Daily Roaming destination (valid until midnight NZ time), up to 90 consecutive days. If you are not on an Eligible Plan and/or in a Daily Roaming destination other rates will apply. GST charge applies. Roaming Terms and Conditions apply.

Important things to know
For $10 a day, per device, you can use your NZ mobile plan's data, minutes and TXTs overseas in over 165 destinations including Australia, Fiji, Samoa, UK (England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland), USA and China - on all our current Pay Monthly plans (excluding Mobile Broadband), and Red Sure Spend customers who request Daily Roaming.
Capture and share every fantastic experience without worrying about bill shock or searching for Wi-Fi. You don’t need to do anything, roaming just works when you land.
The Daily Roaming charge applies each day you use your phone overseas and gives you access to your NZ plan allowances until midnight NZ time. Make sure you get the most from your $10 - whether you make a call, send a TXT or check Facebook its $10 a day so you may as well do it all!
Connecting to a 5G network may not be available when roaming, even if you have a 5G capable handset and eligible 5G plan.
If you are on an endless data plan, once you exceed your Max Speed Data allowance you can continue to enjoy Small or Medium Pay Monthly Plan at a maximum speed of 1.2 Mbps while roaming. If you are not on an Small or Medium Pay Monthly Plan, and you run out of data, you can buy more with Flexi Data, just like at home. All other rates will apply as per your NZ mobile plan.
Please note that One NZ Pass purchases are only available for use within New Zealand. If you roam overseas, data charges will apply.
One NZ Pass data is not available for use when roaming and is not included as part of your Pay Monthly mobile $10 a day roaming.
When does the charge apply?
You will only be charged for the days you are using your phone. This means if you make a call (including calls to voicemail), answer a call, send a TXT or PXT, or use data while in a daily roaming destination, you will be charged $10 a day. This is aligned to NZ time for each calendar day. Receiving TXTs is free but receiving / downloading a PXT via the roaming network (and not WiFi) will use data and you’ll be charged $10 for that day.
In order to avoid or limit daily roaming charges, switch on airplane mode and turn on WiFi Calling (see more below). If you don’t switch on airplane mode and only turn off data roaming, this will not block incoming calls or TXTs which you’ll be charged for.
Calls and TXTs not working?
2G and 3G networks are starting to shut down in some countries which may impact your ability to make a call or TXT while roaming overseas. If you can’t make a call or send a TXT while overseas, try manually changing the overseas network you’re connected to or you can use apps that use data to contact family and friends.
If you are calling or TXTing local numbers in your destination, make sure you add the local country code.
Sending TXTs to local shortcode numbers in your destination will not work.
WiFi Calling overseas
Using WiFi Calling overseas is easy, just connect to any available WiFi and turn on WiFi Calling to be able to call and TXT as if you are still in New Zealand. You don’t need to turn on Roaming to use WiFi Calling so you won’t be charged roaming rates however your minutes and TXTs used over WiFi Calling will come out of your mobile plan allowance.
For example if you’re on a Pay Monthly plan and call a NZ number using WiFi Calling while roaming overseas, this will come out of your plan allowance. If you call a local number in the country you’re travelling in, you’ll be charged the standard cost of calling an international number, like you would at home.
Please note: Calls will drop once you leave WiFi coverage and you will need to turn on Roaming to make a call.

- Data only devices such as tablets will not receive a welcome TXT or 80% and 100% notifications, but your mobile web browser will re-direct you to the page to choose and buy your bundles.
- You cannot buy bundles via TXT if you are on iPad or Corporate APN.
WiFi Calling overseas
Using WiFi Calling overseas is easy, just connect to any available WiFi and turn on WiFi Calling to be able to call and TXT as if you are still in New Zealand. You don't need to turn on roaming to use WiFi Calling so you won’t be charged roaming rates however your minutes and TXTs used over WiFi Calling will come out of your mobile plan allowance.
For example if you’re on a Pay Monthly plan and call a NZ number using WiFi Calling while roaming overseas, this will come out of your plan allowance. If you call a local number in the country you’re travelling in, you’ll be charged the standard cost of calling an international number, like you would at home.
Please note: Calls will drop once you leave WiFi coverage and you will need to turn on roaming to make a call.
Troubleshooting
- If you are using email and your data session stops - go to your mobile web browser to be re-directed to the page to buy another bundle.
- If you do not receive a welcome TXT or your browser does not redirect check that you have roaming enabled on your device.
