BYO modem for Broadband

BYO modem or get one of ours

You can use your existing BYO modem and enjoy no fixed term on our Unlimited Fibre, VDSL or ADSL broadband plans, or let us take on your modem worries and get a fully-supported One NZ modem on a 12 month fixed term.
When you bring your own modem, there is limited support.
A One NZ supplied modem comes with support.

If your modem was purchased from a New Zealand retailer or broadband service provider within the last five years, then it will most likely work on the One NZ broadband network. However some broadband settings within your modem may need to change, so you need to be comfortable changing your modem settings.
Here are the modem settings you need to know about.
If you are ready, start with getting a broadband plan.

If you are unsure how to change your modem settings, then we recommend getting a new plug ‘n’ playfully supported One NZ modem. Learn more about our One NZ modem.

Important things to know

Modem requirements

On Fibre broadband - your modem must be Fibre ready/capable (WAN VLAN tagging and IPoE) and have a WAN or Internet port to connect to the Fibre ONT (Optical Network Terminal).

On VDSL/ADSL broadband - your modem must be VDSL/ADSL ready/capable (New Zealand PPPoA DSL).

Support

We will be unable to offer full support for modems not sourced through One NZ. If you’re unsure about how to set up your own modem, we recommend getting a One NZ modem from us.

Voice calling

To use our voice calling over broadband service, you’ll need a One NZ modem as it won’t work on other modems.

If your non-One NZ modem supports SIP voice calling, our voice calling over broadband service will not work.

If you’re bringing a One NZ modem with you, our voice calling over broadband service will only work on the One NZ modems; DN8245, Ultra Hub range, HG659, or newer One NZ modems – you can view our modems here. We may not be able to add a voice calling over broadband service before you're connected with us – once you’re online with us with your existing One NZ modem, give our sales team a call on 0800 222 664 to get voice calling over broadband added to your account.
