Use eSIM Quick Transfer

One NZ offers eSIM Quick Transfer for iPhones or iPads. This allows you to transfer the SIM from your previous device to your new one, or your current physical SIM card to an eSIM when it suits you.

Please note, Quick Transfer will support transfers between iPhone and iPhone or iPad and iPad – not iPhone to iPad.

Getting started

What do you need? Your old phone with either an active One NZ Pay Monthly or Prepay eSIM or physical SIM card. Make sure the latest iOS software is installed on both devices.

Sign in to your Apple Account on both devices. Make sure your previous iPhone has been unlocked with the device passcode, is nearby with Bluetooth turned on and using iOS 18.5 or later. If you don't have access to your current iPhone, please go into a One NZ store to transfer your eSIM.

1. Transfer a physical SIM or eSIM on your previous device to an eSIM on your new device during setup

While you're setting up your new device, you will be asked if you’d like to transfer your SIM - follow the onscreen instructions to transfer your physical SIM or eSIM from an older device. If you need to transfer more than one SIM to your new iPhone, transfer your additional SIMs by following the steps below.

Important: both devices need to be logged into the same Apple account and be connected to the same WiFi network.

2. Transfer a physical SIM or eSIM on your previous iPhone to an eSIM on your new iPhone after setup

1. On your new device, go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM.

2. Choose a phone number to transfer from another iPhone. If you don't see a list of numbers, tap Transfer From Nearby device. This requires both devices to have iOS 16 or later.

3. Check for instructions on your previous device to confirm the transfer. To confirm, tap Transfer or, if asked for a verification code, enter the code that's displayed on your new device.

4. Wait for the cellular plan to activate on your new device. Your previous SIM is deactivated when the cellular plan on your new iPhone activates.

5. If a banner appears on your new iPhone that says Finish Setting Up Your Carrier's Cellular Plan, tap it. You will be redirected to your carrier's webpage to transfer your eSIM. If you need help, contact your carrier.

3. Transfer your physical SIM to an eSIM on your current device
