Installation - Rural Wireless

  • Rural Wireless Broadband self-installation customers just need a SIM to pop into the modem, power up and away you go. These SIM’s are locked to the Rural Wireless Broadband router and will not work in other devices. Do not use standard Prepay or Pay Monthly SIM’s in the rural wireless broadband router.
  • You will need to set up your WiFi network and connect your WiFi capable devices. See how to set up the router and connect WiFi capable devices in the B315 Modem Quick Start Guide.
  • The retail sales rep will tell you the 021 mobile number and PIN of your Rural Wireless Broadband modem so you can set up your My One NZ. If you do not have your Rural Wireless Broadband 021 mobile number and PIN please call 0800 800 966.

Standard installation

Can be carried out if your home is easily accessible, single storey, made from brick or wood, the modem can be placed next to an exterior wall, and less than 10 metres of cabling is needed

Your Rural Broadband antenna, cabling and 3G or 4G wireless modem will be installed by a professional One NZ technician, usually within 10 working days of signing up.

The One NZ sales rep will book your date of installation with you when you sign up. We’ll call you 24 hours before to check whether you’re available and discuss the installation process. If you need to change your installation date or time please call 0800 800 966.

Before installing Rural Broadband the technician will check the broadband coverage and tell you whether additional work or cabling is needed and how much it will cost.

If the technician finds that Rural Broadband doesn’t work correctly at your address or you’re not happy with the additional costs, the installation won’t proceed and no charges will apply.

What your installation includes:

  • Installation of a directional antenna. The antenna is normally installed on the roof facing the nearest One NZ cell site
  • Cabling from the antenna to the 4G wireless modem
  • Connection of your main computer to the modem and confirmation that broadband is working
  • Transfer of one landline number to the One NZ wireless service if you selected Rural Wireless Broadband and Calling

Price: $99 (incl GST) standard installation on a 24 month term

If you choose a 1 month minimum term, you accept that you will be charged for the upfront installation costs of $699 for your wireless broadband services

Premium installation

If your home does not meet the standard install criteria.

Premium installation may be required if

  • Your home is built from concrete, steel or glass
  • Your home has 2 or more stories
  • The house or roof is difficult to access, or has a pitch of more than 15 degrees
  • Scaffolding or elevated platform work is required to complete the installation
  • The modem can’t be placed next to an internal wall, or requires more than 10 meters of cabling
  • Cabling needs to be installed behind interior walls
  • The house shape makes it difficult to install the antenna
  • The modem needs to be located in an area that is not easily accessible from outside

What your installation includes:

Some extra fees may be charged during installation.

There could be further charges for installation if additional travel time, visits or wiring is required.

Please note you are responsible for obtaining all necessary approvals and consents for:

  • The installation of the Rural Broadband antenna, cable and equipment at your premises
  • Any alterations to your premises needed to install the equipment. (For example, drilling of holes to attach the antenna for antenna attachments and cables)
  • Allowing our technicians access to your premises

Self installation

Some customers do not need an antennae to be able to access Rural Wireless Broadband. If you do not require an antennae, you can request the Self-Install option (only available through selected Retail stores).
