Welcome to coverage like never before
One NZ Satellite TXT is here. Customers with an eligible One NZ phone and plan who are out of traditional cell-tower coverage can now send and receive TXTs anywhere in New Zealand they have a clear line of sight to the sky.*
These customers are some of the first in the world to enjoy this new technology, which is being rolled out in partnership with Starlink Direct to Mobile (engineered by SpaceX).
Whether on the farm, on the road, on the water, or in the mountains, eligible One NZ customers living, working, and playing in some of the most remote parts of our country can enjoy coverage like never before.
One NZ Satellite TXT offers an extra layer of protection to existing safety devices. If you're planning a visit to somewhere remote, it's always recommended to take a personal locator beacon in case of emergency.
The type of eligible phone you are using, where you are in New Zealand and whether a satellite is currently overhead will all have an impact on how long it takes to send and receive a TXT.

How to TXT via space
Check you are satellite-ready
You need an eligible phone and plan to TXT through space. Check this before you head out of traditional cell-tower coverage.
Ensure you have clear line of sight to the sky
Finding open spaces or an area that's unobstructed by things such as buildings, trees, structures etc. will help your phone 'find' the satellites.
Look for 'One NZ SpaceX' on your phones network banner
The One NZ SpaceX network banner shows when your phone is connected to a satellite. There will be short gaps but don't worry the next satellite should come within minutes and the banner will reappear.
Send your TXT via the TXT app on your phone
You can check your TXT has been sent by looking for the time stamp. If your TXT fails to send, check your network banner and ensure clear line of sight to the sky, then try again.
Optimising your experience
Once you've got an eligible phone and plan, there's nothing you need to do to enable the service. A few tips to help you use the service:
- To TXT via satellite, you need a clear line of sight to the sky. Unlike other satellite services, you don't need to hold your phone up towards the sky.
- Keeping your TXT short will help. You can also prepare your TXT and press send as soon as you see the One NZ SpaceX banner appear on-screen.
- To check if your TXT has been delivered, check the time stamp next to your TXT. On a Samsung or OPPO, tap on the message.
- Satellites are amazing, but they can't keep your phone charged! Remember to charge your phone or take a battery pack if you are out adventuring.
- Ensure you are on the latest software to get the best experience.
