Getting One NZ Broadband installed at your business

This article shows an overview of the three step process for getting Ultra Fast Broadband installed at your place of business.
If Fibre Broadband has not yet been installed at your business location, this is the right place to learn about the installation process.
When Fibre is already installed, you can start by choosing the right Business Broadband plan to suit you.

Your local provider.

Start by finding your local fibre provider , or for further information visit:

A quick guide to the UFB installation process.

As your broadband provider , we will work alongside the local fibre company to get your business up and running on UFB.

If UFB is already in the building it will take up to 4 weeks on average to get connected. If you don't have fibre in the building, it will take up to 4 months on average to arrange consents, run the fibre from the road and make the final connection.

This is a three-step process by the local fibre company.

1. Agree.

The local fibre company will contact you and arrange a visit to your premises. During this 1-hour visit they will draw up a plan showing how the fibre will get from the road to the outside of the building and where/how the fibre equipment will be installed inside your premises - so you might want your IT Manager and Facilities Manager present. After explaining the plan, you will then be asked to sign the UFB installation consent form, so that all parties agree on what to expect. Arrange consents

This is the most time consuming part of the process as installation consent is required from the building owners. Consent is also required if your business shares either a right of way or cross-lease, or if you're a tenant within the building. Why do you need consent?
Consent is required for local fibre companies to:

  • Access the property so they can assess what work needs to be done.
  • Manage your network infrastructure.
  • Secure access to your network for the purposes of maintenance, replacement or upgrade.

The build and connect work will only begin once all of the necessary consents, including yours and other joint owners, have been received. You can speed things up by making sure the local fibre company has the correct landlord information and by liaising with your landlord or owners for approval. Non-standard installation.
Where a fibre installation falls within standard parameters, based on distance from the road to your premises, the government subsidises the cost. However, you may incur non-standard installation charges where the installation is outside these parameters e.g. the property is a greater distance from the road, due to a car park in front. In this case, you or the building owner may be asked to contribute toward the non-standard costs. The local fibre company will outline these and give you a quote first, so you can decide if you want to go ahead.

2. Build.

The next step is to install fibre from the road to the outside of your premises as agreed during the installation walk through. There's no need to be present for this, as the local fibre company does not need access to your business.

3. Connect.

The final step is to complete your connection. Either the local fibre company or one of our representatives will schedule a morning appointment to install the equipment. You may want to have the same staff present that were at the installation planning - for example your IT Manager or Facilities Manager.

The local fibre company will confirm on the day and you will need to be at the site for around 4 hours (depending on your local fibre company and installation type). The connection of fibre to your business will include the installation of an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) in the agreed location, which will connect to the fibre already installed to the outside of the building. The local fibre company will test the connection and then you'll be up and running with Ultra Fast Broadband.

Depending on the product you will be using on Ultra Fast Broadband, you may require an IT specialist or the installation of additional equipment. This information will be provided to you by us on a case-by-case basis.
Reinstatement.
Within 2 weeks of the fibre being installed the local fibre company will reinstate any surfaces that were disturbed. You do not need to be present, as the local fibre company will not need access to your business.
