Deco App | Set up SuperWifi

This page explains how to set up SuperWifi using the Deco App.

You should know

  • A TP-Link ID is required to perform this task
    Find out how to create a TP-Link ID using the Deco app
  • Ensure your app is updated
  • The examples in the article below are for X50 devices. You will need to choose the model that you are setting up from the list of available devices
  • X80 is plug'n'play which means the app setup is not needed. You will simply need to power on the device and it should connect to the wifi. You can also use the app by logging into the app when connected to WiFi and the modem will automatically be added on the app. There are instructions in the box for set-up.

Steps

Setup a twin pack

  1. Log into the Deco App

  2. Tap LET'S BEGIN

  3. In the search field, enter X50

    The How do you want to use your product screen appears
  5. Confirm you have the following, then tap the arrow icon

    • Deco X20/X50 units
    • Ethernet cable
    • Power cable

  6. Power off your modem
  7. Using the Ethernet cable:

    • Plug one side into the modem's LAN port
    • Plug the other side into the Deco unit's Ethernet port
  8. Tap the arrow icon

  9. Wait for 2 minutes and check your modem's Internet light is on and stable
  10. Tap the arrow icon

  11. Power on the Deco X20/X50 and wait until the LED is pulsing blue
  12. Tap the arrow icon

    The Deco app starts searching for the Deco X20/X50
  13. When the Deco app finds the Deco X20/X50, tap Join
  14. Select where your modem has been placed

  15. Tap Connect

    The Deco will search for internet access
  16. Enter a Wi-Fi network name and password

  17. Tap Next

    The Deco app and Deco X20/X50 start connecting. After it connects, the app tests the internet connection.
  19. Tap Next

  20. Turn off Wi-Fi on the modem

Setup a third node

  1. Set up the twin pack of Deco units
  2. Open the Deco app
  3. From the top-left of the main screen, tap the + icon

  4. Select Add a Deco Unit

  5. In the search field, enter X20/X50

  6. Tap the X50 device

  7. Find a suitable spot for the X20/X50 unit



    • 1 floor

      Ensure you put the unit in another room
    • 2 or 3 floors

      Ensure you put the devices on separate floors
    • Other recommendations

      • Ensure the unit is placed out in the open
      • Pace the unit away from large electrical devices
  8. Tap the arrow icon
  9. Power on the Deco X20/X50 and wait until the LED is pulsing blue
  10. Tap the arrow icon

  11. Select where your modem has been placed

    After the settings are applied, the Deco has been added screen appears
  13. Tap Done

Support

If encounter any issues during the setup, there are 3 things you can try:

  • Power off all devices, and try the process again

    Powering up devices in the incorrect order will impact the setup

  • Delete the unit from the Deco app

    Completely delete the unit from the deco app , power off all Deco units, and start the process again

  • Factory reset the Deco unit

    This should only be done as a last resort
