About using your iPad

Find out how to use your iPad on the One NZ network, including managing mobile data, checking your allowance, updating your software and getting help with your device.

Check and manage your mobile data use

Using your iPad on a mobile network can use more data than you might realise. You can check how much mobile data your device and individual apps are using from your iPad settings.

To check your mobile data use:

  1. Open Settings on your iPad
  2. Select Mobile
  3. Scroll down to view your network details and mobile data usage.
  4. You’ll also see a list of apps that can use mobile data. You can turn mobile data access on or off for individual apps.
  5. Select System Services to see data used by system features.

Turning off mobile data for apps you don’t need while you’re away from Wi-Fi can help you manage your data use.

Checking your One NZ data allowance

You can check your remaining data allowance at any time using My One NZ on the web or through the One NZ app.

To register for My One NZ, you’ll need the mobile number associated with the SIM in your iPad.

If your iPad can’t send or receive TXT messages, you may not receive TXT notifications when you reach 80% or 100% of your data allowance. It’s a good idea to check your usage regularly in My One NZ instead.

If you use Flexi Data or Data Angel Overseas , these services can also work with an iPad. If you run out of data and try to browse the web, you may be redirected to a page where you can purchase more data.

Keeping your iPad software up to date

Keeping your iPad software up to date helps you get the latest features, improvements and updates provided by Apple.

Before installing an update, it’s a good idea to back up your device.

You can update your iPad:

  • Wirelessly: Connect your iPad to Wi-Fi and follow the software update instructions on your device.
  • Using a Mac: Connect your iPad to your Mac and select the device from the Finder sidebar.
  • Using iTunes: If you’re using a computer that manages your iPad through iTunes, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed before updating your device.

SIM cards for iPad

The type of SIM card required depends on your iPad model.
