Voicemail | User guides for Mobile and Wireless broadband

This article explains how to set up and manage your voicemail service on Mobile, Home Phone Wireless or a Wireless Broadband account.

What is Voicemail?

Voicemail is like an answering machine on your phone. When you can't pick up a call, the caller can leave you a voice message that you can listen to later.

You should know

iOS 18 and Voicemail Changes

Recently, Apple released the iOS 18 update.

  • Default Settings: iOS 18 defaults voicemail settings to Apple’s Live Voicemail, replacing One NZ’s service. This feature is enabled by default and uses a generic greeting.
  • Setup Required: You would need to set up a PIN and greeting for Apple Live Voicemail.
  • Two Voicemails: You now have two voicemail systems: One NZ Voicemail and Apple Live Voicemail.
    • Apple Voicemail: Calls to an Apple phone will go to Apple voicemail if the line is busy or if there’s no answer.
    • One NZ Voicemail: If the phone is off or out of coverage, calls will go to One NZ voicemail.

Missing Voicemails or Greetings?

If you've lost voicemail messages or your custom greeting, it might be because the new "Live Voicemail" feature is enabled by default.

If you prefer the One NZ voicemail experience, you can disable "Live Voicemail" on your iphone:

  1. Go to Settings Phone Live Voicemail.
  2. Toggle Live Voicemail off.

How does Voicemail work?

Voicemail gives callers the ability to leave a message when you're busy or not available.
Note: In some cases, you are charged to call voicemail. Please check your plan's pricing information.

Getting Started with Voicemail

Dial 707 from your mobile or wireless home phone on our network and follow the voice prompts. There are two key aspects of setting up voicemail for the first time.
  • Your greeting: This is the message people who are diverted to your voicemail will hear
  • Your voicemail PIN: This is a 4-6 digit number that is needed when you're checking your voicemail from a landline or another mobile

Listen to your Voicemail

Accessing your voicemail use 707 or 021700700 only when accessing your voicemail from your own phone. This is known as the "trusted access number," and the voicemail platform matches the calling number with your mailbox number.

Accessing Voicemail from Another Phone

If you're calling from a phone that isn't your mailbox number and want to listen to your messages:
  1. Call your own number.
  2. Press # when you hear your greeting, or press ## at the end of your greeting.
  3. Enter your voicemail PIN when prompted.
  4. You can access your messages now
Note: You cannot access voicemail from another mobile on our network.

Managing Your Voicemails

Your voicemails are private and only you can access them. They stay available until you listen to them, as long as they aren't deleted after 30 days.

After you listen to a voicemail, you can keep it for another 30 days. If you want to keep it longer, just listen to it again to renew the 30-day period.

Important: Voicemails can't be retrieved once they have been deleted, or after voicemail has been deactivated.

Voicemail Inbox Capacity

Your voicemail inbox can hold up to 50 messages. If your inbox is full, you'll be notified and no more messages can be left until you delete some.
