Fibre | About your installation

Find out what to expect when getting fibre broadband installed, including installations for standalone homes, shared driveways and properties that need consent.

How fibre installation works

The installation process can vary depending on your property and where you live.

Your local fibre provider will organise the physical installation of fibre to your property. The local providers are:

Installing fibre at a standalone home

Your local fibre provider will arrange the installation and work with you on what’s required at your property.

If your scheduled installation date no longer works for you, call us on 0800 806 106 to arrange another time.

We’ll try to find a date close to your original booking, although availability may depend on demand in your area.

Installing fibre on a shared driveway

If your property shares a driveway or right of way, consent may be needed before installation work can begin.

Once the required consents have been received:

  1. Your local fibre provider will let affected property owners know when work will take place.
  2. Fibre will be installed along the shared driveway.
  3. You’ll meet with the provider to agree how fibre will be installed at your home.
  4. The provider will complete the external build.
  5. The final connection will be completed inside your home.

You don’t usually need to be home during the external build, but you’ll need to be available for the final installation. The in-home connection, testing and activation can take up to four hours.
If you rent your property, your landlord will also need to agree to the installation and sign the required paperwork.

Apartments, building owners and body corporates

If you’re a building owner or part of a body corporate, consent may be required before fibre can be installed.

Your local fibre provider will work through the consent and installation process with the relevant property owners or representatives before work begins.
