About One NZ and IPv6

This article covers the use of IPv6 on the One NZ broadband or fixed networks.

We have deployed IPv6 across our fixed line broadband network*, providing full IPv6 and IPv4 dual stack access to customers with compatible hardware.

About One NZ's IPv6 network

  • The most popular internet content, such as Google, Facebook, and Netflix are IPv6 capable, and we connect directly with them using IPv6
  • Our backbone network is IPv6 capable, as are the links to our transport and content providers, both locally and internationally
  • Our DNS servers can be reached via IPv4 or IPv6.

What you need to get IPv6

It's available now to customers on our fixed line broadband network with a router capable of IPv6 dual stack. The DN8245  which is supplied for most of our broadband services, supports this. Previous modems, the Ultra Hub and Ultra Hub Plus also support this.

Your computer will also need to support IPv6, which most modern computers do.

Your IPv6 address

You'll receive a /56 prefix. Currently, we don't offer static IPv6 addresses, although the prefix you receive should persist across router reboots.

To check how you're connected, try browsing to ipboomhauer.com  and you'll be shown your current IP address.
* Some customers on older equipment in the Chorus and cable network may be unable to receive an IPv6 address.
