Phone Divert | User guides for legacy copper phone lines

This article explains how to set up and manage Call Diversion on ADSL/VDSL copper phone lines.

Phone Divert allows you to transfer your incoming calls to another number, so you can answer calls wherever you are.

Before you begin

There is a monthly fee for Call Divert .

These are the different types of Phone Divert:

  • Always/Immediate - All calls to your phone go straight to the alternative number you want your calls diverted to
  • Busy - When your phone is busy calls are diverted to an alternative number
  • No answer - Your phone will ring for 10 seconds before a message advises the caller they will be put through to the alternative number

Standard calling charges apply if you divert your calls to a mobile phone or to another phone outside your local calling area, including international calling area. These charges are payable by the call diverter, not the caller.
You can still make outgoing calls from your home phone when Phone Divert is in use, but you'll notice the dial tone is different (long-short-long). This reminds you that incoming calls are still being diverted.

Unfortunately, you cannot have Phone Divert and Phone and Faxline on the same phone line.

Once the Phone Divert has been added to your account, you must programme the phone number that you want calls to be diverted to. You can load up to 9 pre-set phone numbers. You cannot programme a phone number that has more than 14 digits.

Steps

Program Phone Divert Numbers

From your phone:
  1. Lift the handset and wait for the dial tone
  2. Dial 181 followed by a slot number between 161 and 169
  3. Enter the phone number to which calls will be diverted, including area code if the number is outside your local calling area (for example, 161 - 04 - 801 9000)
  4. Press # to save this number against the slot 161

Wait for the confirmation tone (long-short-long)
  5. Hang up
To add more Phone Divert phone numbers, repeat steps 1 to 6, changing the slot number every time.

Turn Phone Divert On

From your phone:
