This article will take you through the steps to change your Wi-Fi channel manually.
Before you begin
Manual channel selection is not recommended. The default Automatic option is preferred as this automatically scans and selects the best channel for Wi-Fi operation.
When should I change my Wi-Fi channel?
You should consider changing your Wi-Fi channel when you:
- Have checked the Wi-Fi Analyser and can see there are a lot of other devices in your area using the same channel
- Experience slow browsing speeds when using Wi-Fi but normal speeds when connected using an Ethernet cable
- Have a poor Wi-Fi signal.
Steps
- Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1
The Welcome screen appears Complete the following fields:
- Username - You can find this on the bottom of your modem
- Password - You can find this on the bottom of your modem
Click Log In
- The Overview screen appears
- Navigate to Advanced
- Select Wi-Fi
If you want to change the channel for the:
2.4Ghz - Select 2.4Ghz Advanced
5Ghz - Select 5Ghz Advanced
- Under the Channel option, select the desired channel (For 5Ghz Channels 100-144 should be avoided) and then click apply
