DN8245 Modem/Router | How to change the WiFi channel

Here are the steps to change your DN8245 Wi-Fi channel manually.

Before you begin

Manual channel selection is not recommended.
The default Automatic option is preferred as this automatically scans and selects the best channel for Wi-Fi operation.

When should I change my WiFi channel?

You should consider changing your WiFi channel when you:

  • Have checked the WiFi Analyser and can see there are a lot of other devices in your area using the same channel
  • Experience slow browsing speeds when using WiFi but normal speeds when connected using an Ethernet cable
  • Have a poor WiFi signal.

Steps

  1. Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1 
    The Welcome screen appears
  2. Complete the following fields:
    • Username - You can find this on the bottom of your modem
    • Password - You can find this on the bottom of your modem
  3. Click Log In

  4. The Overview screen appears
  5. Navigate to Advanced
  6. Select WiFi
  7. If you want to change the channel for the:

    • 2.4Ghz  - Select 2.4Ghz Advanced.

    • 5Ghz - Select 5Ghz Advanced.

  8. Under the Channel option, select the desired channel (For 5Ghz Channels 100-144 should be avoided) and then click apply.
