DN8245 | Change WiFi Channel

This article will take you through the steps to change your Wi-Fi channel manually.

Before you begin

Manual channel selection is not recommended. The default Automatic option is preferred as this automatically scans and selects the best channel for Wi-Fi operation.

When should I change my Wi-Fi channel?

You should consider changing your Wi-Fi channel when you:

  • Have checked the Wi-Fi Analyser and can see there are a lot of other devices in your area using the same channel
  • Experience slow browsing speeds when using Wi-Fi but normal speeds when connected using an Ethernet cable
  • Have a poor Wi-Fi signal.

Steps

  1. Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1 
    The Welcome screen appears
  2. Complete the following fields:

    • Username - You can find this on the bottom of your modem
    • Password - You can find this on the bottom of your modem

  3. Click Log In

  4. The Overview screen appears
  5. Navigate to Advanced
  6. Select Wi-Fi
  7. If you want to change the channel for the:

    • 2.4Ghz  - Select 2.4Ghz Advanced

    • 5Ghz - Select 5Ghz Advanced

  8. Under the Channel option, select the desired channel (For 5Ghz Channels 100-144 should be avoided) and then click apply
